FAQs
Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions we receive at City Road Chapel. If you don't see the answer to your questions, please call or email us (see information at left).
Where are you located?
You can find us at the corner of Gallatin Rd and Neely's Bend in Madison, Tennessee. We're the "big stone church" across Neely's Bend from the Walgreens. For more precise directions, click here.
What time is worship?
We have two worship services on Sunday morning--one at 8:00 am and one at 10:00 am--and an evening service at 6:00 pm. Our 8:00 am service is a smaller, more traditional Methodist service. Our 10:00 am service is more 'contemporary' and often includes a praise medley as well as traditional hymns, and variety in the words spoken by the congregation. The 5:00 pm service, entitled "The Foundry" is an intimate, 'conversational' worship service that meets in our Welcome Center, where attendees can sit on comfy couches and discuss topics with each other.
Do I need to be a member of the church to come to dinners, events, shows, Bible study or classes?
Absolutely not! We would love to have you join us. You do not even have to be a Christian! We welcome all comers.
I've never been to a Methodist church? What should I expect?
Well, people singing, praying, spending time with children, a sermon by the preacher and a good bit of laughter. If someone doesn't welcome you sincerely into our midst, please let us know! It is God's house and all are welcome. Like most churches we have specific ways of doing things during the service, special prayers or set words we speak, that may be unfamiliar to you. If you have questions, ask someone near you. If you are uncomfortable with saying anything, don't say it. No one will have a problem with that. The first Sunday of the month is usually Communion Sunday, when we partake of the Lord's Supper. We usually do this by coming to the altar up front, but if you wish it can be brought to you in your pew and you do not have to partake at all.
Who can take communion (the Lord's Supper)?
We have an open table. Only you and God know your relationship and need. Christ invites all to come to his table. Come as you wish.
What do I need to wear to worship?
City Road Chapel has a 'come as you are' dress code. Some people come dressed up; some people come dressed casually. We don't have any expectations of dress; just come as you are and worship with us!
What are your office hours?
Our offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Do you offer financial assistance or other kinds of help?
Yes, but not directly from the church. We give money, food and other donations to various local charities, including Madison's Christian Cooperative Ministries, as well as participate in numerous projects in partnership with other organizations to provide outreach and meet our mission of Sharing God's Love.
Where can I find out more about Methodism and the United Methodist Church (UMC)?
OOur pastor and many others in the congregation would be happy to answer questions or explain things for you. We have a Sunday School class, The Inquirers, that would also be a good place to learn. There are many UMC Websites where you may receive answers to your questions. Some are below and we ill happily direct you to others if you ask.
